Welcome to our new website. We will be periodically adding news and results alongside copies of our regular magazine CHESS Minister!.
Chess Minister 67!Ivor Davies Trophy
We
have a new trophy which will be known as the Ivor Davies Trophy. Larger
photographs are available by clicking
on this link.
After 40 years of the Club’s existence, the Bailey Shield is now full. The
new
Trophy has been purchased by the Club and is named in memory of our founder,
Ivor Davies, and this will last for the next 30 years. The first Shield
has been engraved with the names of the 2007/8 winners and will be passed
around future winners.
2008 Club Champion
Justin Caldwell & Steve Whitmore will share the Championship for
the 2007/8 season. They will therefore be the first names inscribed
on the new Ivor Davies Trophy.

CCCC Championship 2007/8
The
latest results and tables are available courtesy of Bruce Carlin. Division
1 is simply waiting to see whether Brian Shephard is going to complete
any games or default (his one loss to Whitmore is by default). This will
determine the outcome of the Championship, which is looking as though
it will be a tie between Steve Whitmore and Justin Caldwell. Division
2 still has a few results outstanding, which I trust will be forthcoming
in the next couple of weeks. Divisions 3 & 4 are complete.
Chess Minister 65!
The latest issue of our magazine has now been released, we have made
it available for download and online viewing. We are sad to record the
death of Bert Norris. Bert had been ill for some time but still hoped
to play in the current season. Sadly this was not to be. An Obituary
appears in this magazine. Congratulations to Anthony Foster on winning
a competition in The Times, details of which are also in this
issue.

CCCC Champion 2006/7
Congratulations to
Justin Caldwell, 2006/7 champion. His is the final name inscribed on
the Bailey Shield, which after 40 years is full and will be replaced
by a new Shield named after Club founder Ivor Davies. This season’s championship
will decide whose name is the first to be inscribed on this.
As above, Justin Cadlwell is again Champion, dropping just half a point to Geoffrey Harper who finished 3rd on tie break ahead of Brian Shephard (by winning their game), and behind Steve Whitmore who finished 2nd. Bert Norris was lower than usual in 5th place in a season affected by illness, while Mike Smith and David Hulme are relegated.
Andrew Yates and David Lowe won promotion from Division 2, Yates taking 1st place on tie break. Hilary Costello was 3rd while Michael Williamson beat Jerry Garton on tie break, while John Loxton failed to score. Although Garton has decided to take some time out from league play he did complete his games and thus does count as one of the relegated players from this division, so Williamson stays in Division 2.
Wilf Alexander was unbeaten in Division 3 and is joined in promotion by David Nye. Bill Fulton was just half a point behind but gains promotion also to fill up Division 2 to accommodate an extra league player next season. Michael Thistlewood survives in Division 3 beating Lisa Battye on tie break (he won their game), who thus goes down along with Tim Partridge who can at least take consolation that the half point he scored was against the Division winner.
Mark Northcott achieved 100% score to win Division 4 from Richard Cleaves. Stanley Hall was 3rd and gains promotion due to the space created by Garton’s withdrawal, while David Boddy pipped Anthony Foster on tie break (removing their score against the lowest placed player as their game was drawn) for 4th.
