Welcome to our new website. We will be periodically adding news and results alongside copies of our regular magazine CHESS Minister!.
As above, Justin Cadlwell is again Champion, dropping just half a point to Geoffrey Harper who finished 3rd on tie break ahead of Brian Shephard (by winning their game), and behind Steve Whitmore who finished 2nd. Bert Norris was lower than usual in 5th place in a season affected by illness, while Mike Smith and David Hulme are relegated.
Andrew Yates and David Lowe won promotion from Division 2, Yates taking 1st place on tie break. Hilary Costello was 3rd while Michael Williamson beat Jerry Garton on tie break, while John Loxton failed to score. Although Garton has decided to take some time out from league play he did complete his games and thus does count as one of the relegated players from this division, so Williamson stays in Division 2.
Wilf Alexander was unbeaten in Division 3 and is joined in promotion by David Nye. Bill Fulton was just half a point behind but gains promotion also to fill up Division 2 to accommodate an extra league player next season. Michael Thistlewood survives in Division 3 beating Lisa Battye on tie break (he won their game), who thus goes down along with Tim Partridge who can at least take consolation that the half point he scored was against the Division winner.
Mark Northcott achieved 100% score to win Division 4 from Richard Cleaves. Stanley Hall was 3rd and gains promotion due to the space created by Garton’s withdrawal, while David Boddy pipped Anthony Foster on tie break (removing their score against the lowest placed player as their game was drawn) for 4th.
