Definitions:
- PGN is an acronym for Portable Game Notation, a standard for the representation of chess data as text files. PGN is designed for use both by human users and by computer software. It includes standards for encoding positions, moves, and annotations, as well as data about the players and circumstances in the creation of the game.
- CBV is an acronym for a Chessbase compressed archive. The selected database is compressed into a single file. The degree of compression depends on the contents of the database, but a space saving of about 30% to 50% (considerably more if there is a great deal of text commentary) can be achieved and allow for faster downloads from this site.
