Our Constitution

  1. This organisation shall be called the British Federation for Correspondence Chess (BFCC).

  2. The objects of the BFCC are:
    1. to encourage the playing of correspondence chess (CC);
    2. to harmonise the efforts of the CC bodies including the provision of opportunities for rallies and meetings;
    3. to institute and maintain CC championships and other tournaments as required;
    4. to organise participation in international tournaments and matches;
    5. to award British titles as deemed appropriate;
    6. to produce a grading or ranking list.

  3. The BFCC shall be governed by an Executive Committee (EC) composed of the BFCC President, Treasurer, Secretary, International Secretary, Editor "Information Circular" (the Officers), one delegate from each paid-up member body, National Body and the British Chess Federation. No delegate may represent more than two member bodies.

  4. The EC shall meet at least twice a year and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) shall be held in May or June. The BFCC financial year shall be the calendar year. The Treasurer shall produce audited accounts for adoption by the AGM.

    1. The President, Treasurer, Secretary, International Secretary and Editor "Information Circular" shall be elected by the AGM. The AGM shall appoint an Auditor. The EC shall be empowered to fill vacancies. The EC may appoint sub-committees as and when required and may delegate authority to such sub-committees. The EC shall be empowered to co-opt.
    2. Any member of a member body, Life Vice-President or Vice-President may be elected an officer of the BFCC. Life Vice-Presidents and Vice-Presidents shall have the right to attend EC and General Meetings.
    3. Tournament Secretaries of Championships shall have the right to attend EC and General Meetings but not to vote.

    1. The quorum for any EC or General Meeting shall be four attendees each with at least one vote.
    2. A minimum of 21 day's notice shall be given for each meeting.
    3. Written notice of motions to be placed on the AGM agenda shall be given to the Secretary by 1st April.
    4. An Extraordinary General Meeting shall be called within 28 days on the demand of not less than three delegates, whose voting power shall be not less than nine votes.

    1. No addition or alteration to this Constitution shall be made except when supported at a General Meeting by a minimum of two-thirds of the votes cast.
    2. The EC shall have the authority to vary championship, tournament and playing rules and any fees and prizes set out in the Schedule of Fees and Prizes by simple majority, after appropriate consultation.

    1. Application for BFCC membership shall be open to all bodies organising CC.
    2. Individuals may be accepted as Life Vice-Presidents or Vice-Presidents of the BFCC.
    3. Subscriptions shall be such sums as may be determined from time to time by the EC, and specified in the Schedule of Fees and Prizes. Annual subscriptions shall be renewable on the anniversary of joining.

  5. Voting at meetings shall be in accordance with the following schedule:
    1. each EC member except for delegates of member bodies not National Bodies shall have one vote in his own right; except that the President or acting Chairman shall have a casting vote only;
    2. each Life Vice-President and Vice-President shall have one vote at General Meetings only;
    3. delegates from member bodies not National Bodies shall be entitled to votes based on their numerical membership:
      for up to 50 CC players - two votes
      for 51 to 100 CC players - three votes
      for 101 to 250 CC players - four votes
      for 251 to 500 CC players - five votes
      for over 500 CC players - six votes.

  6. The BFCC shall scrupulously avoid seeking to influence the internal affairs of a member body.

THIS BECAME THE OFFICIAL CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERATION FROM THE CLOSE OF THE MEETING HELD ON 6th JUNE 1987, BEING SUBSEQUENTLY AMENDED ON 16th SEPTEMBER 1989, 1st JUNE 1991, 5th JUNE 1993 AND 28th February 1999.
